The above picture is a mixture of two iconic cartoon characters mashed together. Mickey Mouse and Pikachu are the two that I combined to create Mickeychu. I first took the shape of Pikachu, and the outfit and colors of Mickey Mouse, and kept the face of Pikachu. It was originally outlined in pencil, then I painted in the insides, then outlined the whole thing in sharpie for a more bold look. As this was my first time painting in class, it was somewhat new, which made for a slight challenge, which I was able to overcome, making this piece a success. Also, it was a success because the creation of mixing two characters came out very well, as both characters were based off of a mouse. If I did it again, I would be a little more careful with the details and making sure the paint was in straight lines.
My second project was to take a picture, and create a stencil. My picture was the face of a red panda with its tongue slightly out of its mouth. Once I got the picture, I went on the Pixlr App, and changed the coloring and saturation, to outline the blacks and whites. Then I printed off the new picture, and cut out all the parts that were black. Because the red panda is red, I used the color red when spray painting the stencil. Making stencils and spray painting was new to me altogether, so cutting out the picture onto cardboard to make the stencil was very difficult, and my picture had plenty of detail, which didn't help. Because I was able to overcome this challenge, this project was a definite success, as the picture turned out great. If I could do it again, I would make multiple layers so that the face of the red panda was totally in color.
My final project for the Artist Steal theme was to create a monster out of ink. So what we did was get a small cup of ink, and take a straw that was cut in half, and hold the ink in the straw, and then blow the ink onto the paper, and then blow on it to spread it out. The whole monster is not made of ink, just its outline, for mine the head and what looks to be antlers are ink, where as the eyes and the rest of the body were drawn in pen. Using the ink was new to me, but I really enjoyed doing it, and wish that I had time to do another one, because who knows what outline the ink would have made the second time. Because of the ink being unpredictable, it was fun, but a challenge to create something out of the random lines made by the ink. Because I was able to create something with the outline, and one that looked presentable, this project was a success. Therefore, all of my projects created in the Artist Steal theme were a great success, and all of them were fun to do.
